We splice our own conveyor belts in house in an effort to reduce lead times for our most common belt materials.

Whenever you order one of our standard MAA or MAE belts with a conveyor or as a replacement part, we cut, splice and weld it in our in-house manufacturing department. We stock rolls of belt material in all the common widths for our conveyors.

As we ramp up production, you’ll see decreased lead times for our conveyors, especially for the Automation Series and non-standard lengths in our 125 Series.

PS Did you know that you can instantly find and request quotes for the proper replacement parts — including belts — in the My Orders section of our Conveyor Configurator? Simply log in and search for your conveyor by serial number or PO number.

We’ve just launched an upgrade to our popular Conveyor Configurator. The new features range from a redesigned home page to the addition of an innovative system for accessing your past orders.

My Orders

With the update, you’ll be able to access details on past conveyor orders and immediately create quotes for replacement parts. Under the My Orders section, you can search for past orders based on the PO number or conveyor serial number. You’ll see details like the ship date and everything that was ordered, along with the corresponding exploded view drawings.

Expanding an item allows you to see every item on the bill of materials, where you can add any item (from the a whole conveyor down to a single nut) directly to a quote. This allows you to create quotes for re-orders or exactly the right replacement parts with just a few clicks.

New Home Page and Login Screen

We’ve also redesigned the home page and the login page to be more user-friendly. We’ve eliminated a few of the extra clicks that it took to begin a new quote by allowing you to choose a series (or learn more about it) directly from the home page. The login page now combines login and registration into a single page.

Give it a try!

These additions are on top of everything else the Configurator offers. A first in the low profile conveyor industry, the QC Industries Conveyor Configurator allows you to configure entire conveyor systems with the help of a rules-based intelligence that ensures every component will work together properly. Once you’ve configured a conveyor, you can request a quote from your local distributor and download all the 2D and 3D CAD models, specification sheets and exploded views you need to integrate it with your application.

We’re very excited about these changes and hope you’ll give them a try. Visit qcconfig.com to get started today!

With the release of The Amazing Spider-Man this week, our conveyors are taking on a new role: movie stars. We were chosen to provide low profile conveyors for several of the lab scenes in the movie.

When you see the movie (it comes out tomorrow, July 3), keep your eyes peeled for our AS40 Automation Series Conveyors. They’re used to move vials inside the spider nursery that are then transferred using robots built by FANUC Robotics.

Rather than building his own futuristic, high-tech conveyors, art director Page Buckner said he decided to use QC Industries’ aluminum extruded AS40 conveyors because they helped “ground viewers to reality” by showing something that looks “familiar and real” while still providing the high-tech look the scenes required.

We turned to our long-time partners Habasit America and Oriental Motor to provide the belts and motors, respectively, that appeared on the conveyors in the film. We’d like to thank them for working so quickly to meet the timelines required by the film crew!

You can see these photos and more in the Amazing Spider-Man album on our Facebook page.

Stay tuned to the blog for a few more tidbits from the filming that we’ll be releasing over the next few days, including something very cool that we’ve been keeping under wraps (literally!) for almost two years now! UPDATE: You can check out our very special conveyor here.

It’s a reject mechanism for cases of bottles. The cases are ejected onto the appropriate conveyor based on input from a series of sensors (not shown in this testing setup).

Our AS40 Automation Series Conveyors provide the initial takeaway conveyors on both sides. In addition to our conveyors, they used components from 80/20 and PHD.

QC Industries was founded 31 years ago and has experienced tremendous growth over the years. For the last 20 years, Michelle Dillon has been a vital part of that growth through the many roles she’s held here. She’s currently our Accounting Supervisor where she is responsible for our accounts receivable and accounts payable staff and for producing monthly internal financial statements for the company.

Michelle was honored last week during a companywide celebration and presented a 20 Year Service Award from our president David Dornbach.

“QC Industries has been a great place to work for the last 20 years,” she said. “It has been exciting to see the company grow so much. It is even more exciting knowing that the organization’s brightest days are still ahead.”

We’d like to congratulate Michelle on 20 years of exemplary service and look forward to working together for many years to come!

After the jump: a few photos from Michelle’s 20th anniversary celebration.

On January 31st, QC Industries will set a record for the number of distributors that will come in for our Level One conveyor training. The school, which is conducted on a regular basis at our headquarters in Cincinnati, is regarded as one of the best training schools among the many manufacturers represented by our Distributors.

During every session we hand out surveys to help with our continual improvement. Here are a couple of comments that show why our attendance has been so strong:

Jason Kraft, Sales Engineer, Voelker Controls, Franklin, Ohio says, “QC Industries is by far one of the best training schools of any of our manufacturers. The classes move fast and keep your attention. Alhtough you’ve been here for a couple days, it seems like hours. They also have a great happy hour and dinner at Montgomery Inn.”

“As if the fast paced nature of the training wasn’t enough, they have a great facility and demos. Honestly it is the best training our team has attended. Having our sales team spend a few days at QC Industries just supports why we represent them. Pure and simple, this company is on it. The company is growing you can feel the buzz,” said Dan Heiling, President of HeiTek in Phoenix, Arizona.

Training consists of a well rounded view of all of the product lines we offer. The broad stroke approach allows us to cover favorite topics like the competition comparison and the new Conveyor Configurator.

Even during the down turn of 2009, we had just under 70 distributors in for the introduction of our Automation Series line of conveyors.

“We have a clear appreciation of the time and financial resources it takes to travel in for training. We simply want to make the best of our Distributors investment,” said Dave Endres, General Manager of QC industries.

It seems every time we go to a trade show, someone takes a look at all the four- and five-foot-long conveyors in our booth and asks “Do you make any conveyors longer than that?”

Yes, yes we do. And here’s the proof.

I walked out into the shop today and found our crews building up an 18″ wide by 25′ long AS65 Center Drive conveyor and asked if I could take few photos. It took two of us just to roll the conveyor into place for pictures.

This particular conveyor was pushing the maximum length for our Automation Series conveyors, which is 26′, but it’s quite common for us to build conveyors in the 15-20′ range.

At trade shows we tend to use the shorter ones just because they’re much easier to move around and show all the features without having to walk someone 20′ away. Plus, there’s really not much to see but more aluminum and more belt when you start talking about longer conveyors. But, yes, we can and do build them longer and wider on a regular basis.

To help with your company’s advancements in automation we have just introduced our new AS40Z conveyor and a great new Conveyor Configurator. We will also have some exciting surprises coming as well.

You will have an opportunity to visit with us as we wil be exhibiting at the ATX West show in Anaheim, February 14 – 16; in Texas at the new ATX Texas show, March 14th and 15th; at the ATX South show in Charlotte, May 2nd and 3rd; as well as at the Pack Expo in Chicago over Halloween, October 28 – 31.

This year we are introducing our newest line of conveyors, the AS40Z Automation Series Angled Frame Conveyor. The new AS40Z combines the great selling features from our Automation Series platform including the Pivot™ and Tension Release Tail with elevation changes in three different configurations.

Our new Conveyor Configuator now gives customers the ability to configure their own conveyors systems and request quotes from their distributors 24 hours a day. It incorporates intelligent rules from our engineers to ensure that everything works together properly. If a customer makes a selection that would result in a conflict, the Configurator gives smart suggestions to correct the problem. Once the system is configured, customers can download all the appropriate specifications sheets, drawings and CAD models they need to incorporate the conveyor into their plans.

This summer QC Industries’ conveyors will appear in a motion picture released by Sony Pictures. There may be a hint or two dropped along the way, but they will be hard to decipher as we are bound not to disclose until the world wide release. What we can say is that after exhaustive research Sony Pictures chose QC Industries over all other competitors for this opportunity!

Happy New Year and here’s to a prosperous 2012!
